March 14, 2016 – Gov. Peter Shumlin celebrated Vermont’s 2016 maple sugar season with a ceremonial tree tapping event at Sugartree Maple Farm in Williston, VT. The Governor was joined by Vermont Agriculture Secretary Chuck Ross, Consumer Protection Chief and state maple expert, Henry Marckres, Executive Director of the Vermont Sugar Makers Association (VSMA) Matthew Gordon, as well as Team Mosaic, 3rd and 4th graders from Williston Central Elementary school who aided the governor in the tree-tapping process, and accompanied him on an educational tour of the Sugartree Maple Farm facility.

VERMONT- Looks like Vermonters can’t get enough of the Maple Syrup treats. More than 80 Vermont Sugar Makers opened their farms to kick off this weekend. Sugartree Maple Farm said they had a steady crowd on Saturday, even though it’s been the coldest sugaring season in a decade.

SHELBURNE, Vt. —Vermont’s maple season is off to a good start. Some sugarmakers had their first boil at the end of February. Now the sap is flowing freely into many area sugarhouses, becoming maple syrup. “It’s too early to tell, and I’m not going to predict it, but I’m liking what I see so far,” said Mark Yandow of Sugartree Maple Farm.
